A few shots from my daughter's "best ever" birthday present, being a zoo keeper for the day at Drusillas Zoo.

My first 2 rescue dog portraits for The Kit Wilson Trust. Bodie above, who was very well behaved, is of indeterminate age and breed, but she is thought to be 9 to 10 years old and of mainly rottweiler and staffy stock. Tidgi below, also very good natured, is a 5 year old staffy previously owned by an abusive heroin addict who never gave her exercise.
A triptych using my cheap but temperamental live-in model, I've been trying out some ideas for my new sideline in dog portraits. The dog studio is now all set-up so give me a shout if you would like anything along these lines.
Some children at the Compassion Project in Tipitapa, a very poor neighbourhood in Managua, Nicaragua where I recently visited, taking pictures for the american child sponsorship charity, Compassion. This place is a vital refuge from extreme poverty for these young people. They go once or twice a week, they play and learn and are given a hot meal.
Just back from Nicaragua shooting children living in poverty for child sponsorship charity Compassion International. I noticed a few pics, not of children, that work well without the usually welcome, rich central american colours. Children in colour to follow soon.
It comes as a relief that even the most acclaimed historical images have undergone a significant degree of post production. I always thought those old school film shooters had just nailed the shot and that was that. Not only, as I do, they shoot a good few frames, but those greatest shots are also retouched to make them as good as they can be. These images by brilliant american photographer, Dennis Stock give an idea of the retouching process when printing from film.

Time to re-do those head shoots with my friends at Red & Green. This time we try and create a bit of movement with 3 or 4 frames animated together like this one of Creative Director Jonathan Jewell.
I was completely blown away by this scene at The Tower Of London yesterday. I'd heard about the poppy memorial but wasn't prepared for the sheer scale and thought-provoking beauty of the thing, as well as all the hard work being put in by those setting it all up.
Inspired by the classic american imagery of the old west, I realised that a number of the small local churches near me in the East Sussex countryside, could, with a bit of imagination, look like they are in the US.
Seaside historian Kathryn Ferry in Hastings for this month's BBC History magazine. A lovely lady who explained Hastings glamorous 1930s heyday and showed us the surprising amount of it that still remains.
